European manufactured Honda Civic Type R to be sold in Japan
Thanks to globalization, the British-built Honda Civic Type R will be exported to Japan early next year.
Set to be called the Civic Type R EURO, the new model will be sold in extremely limited numbers. While it may sound ironic that a Japanese automaker is importing “Japanese” cars, Honda’s Swindon plant in England is the only place where the three-door Civic Type R is produced.
The car is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 201PS at 8,000rpm. This enables the hot hatch to run from 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 146 mph.
Compared to a standard Civic, the Type R features aggressive styling, a 20mm wider rear track, sportier damper and spring characteristics, a 15mm reduction in ride height, and an improved steering setup.
