Jaguar New XJ Sedan?
Jaguar has just about confirmed speculation a new XJ is due to go into market as early as June 2009 according to statements by Jaguar managers.
The XJ was spied in testing many times during 2008. Jaguar MD Mike O’Driscoll asserted of the vehicle that it ‘takes, we think, the posh pub to new heights re its technical enhancements’. That was in an event previewing the brand’s imminent new engines. The car will be a radical design exit for the XJ label, promising to look more of a four-door coupe than a giant sedan. This was achieved partly by getting the rear roofline to slope towards the back more like an XK than a tavern. Similar-looking automobiles include the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. With the XJ that philosophy will be brought to a higher level.
Whilst a turbocharged gas V8 will power the high performance XJ-R, no plans have been made for a diesel V8. The year 2009 will be a massive one for Jaguar. Inside the following couple of days we also expect to see the XF-R, updated XK and XK-R and new engines for the XF revealed at the Detroit vehicle Show. However, Jaguar isn’t really interested in going high-volume on its cars, adopting a ‘quality over quantity’ perspective instead.
